Shraddha · Lesson 10

Grace Over Obstacles

मच्चित्तः सर्वदुर्गाणि मत्प्रसादात्तरिष्यसि

If you fix your consciousness on Me, you will pass over all obstacles by My grace. But if you act through ego and do not listen, you will be lost.

Chapter 18, Verse 58

Ten lessons on faith, and here’s where it all lands.

Krishna’s final teaching on shraddha is breathtakingly simple: fix your mind on the highest, and you will pass over sarva-durgani — all difficulties, all obstacles, all impossible terrain. Not by your own clever planning. By grace. Mat-prasadat — by My grace.

Grace is a word that makes modern people uncomfortable. It implies something is given that wasn’t earned. And we live in a meritocracy — or at least we believe we do. Everything should be earned. If you got help, it doesn’t fully count.

But here’s what’s honest: every significant achievement in your life involved grace. The mentor who believed in you before you believed in yourself. The opportunity that appeared at exactly the right time. The failure that redirected you to something better. The health, the circumstances, the time in history you were born into. None of that was earned. It was grace.

Krishna isn’t saying don’t work hard. The entire Gita up to this point has been about action, discipline, and dedication. But in this verse, near the very end of his teaching, he reveals the deepest secret: your effort is necessary but not sufficient. There’s a force beyond your personal will that carries you through when you align with it.

The opposite is also stated plainly: atha cet tvam ahankaran na shroshyasi vinankshyasi. If you act from ego, if you refuse to listen, you will be lost. Not punished — lost. Because ego separates you from the current of grace. It makes you think you have to do everything alone. And alone, the obstacles are too big.

This is the complete teaching of Shraddha: your beliefs shape your reality. Faith opens the door to knowledge. Surrender isn’t weakness — it’s the highest strength. The universe reciprocates your approach. No good effort is ever wasted. And when you align your consciousness with something greater than your ego, grace carries you over every obstacle in your path.

Trust the process. Do the work. And let grace do what grace does.
